EPA rolls out over $100M in funding opportunities for recycling, organic waste
The EPA recently rolled out a total of $117 million in competitive grant opportunities, across 3 programs, to catalyze greater recycling, particularly for organic waste which we know is the culprit of potent methane emissions. Sharpen your pencils, America, and get cranking on applications!
Local governments can apply to a pot of $50M and Tribes/Tribal consortia can apply to a pot of $28M from the Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling Grant program;
A coalition can apply for a one-time $39M Recycling Education and Outreach grant, which is aimed at a national education campaign to cut consumer food waste and increase composting awareness.
More and more cities, Tribes and states are taking action to prevent and divert organic waste from being burned and buried. As EPA Administrator Regan said as part of the funding announcement: “EPA is deploying unprecedented resources to improve recycling services and increase educational outreach to communities. When we work together to prevent waste that contributes to climate change, we support local economies, create jobs that pay well, and better protect the health of everyone in the community.”
